Peugeot 208 launched in the UAE & GCC

The all-new Peugeot 208 was launched at an event in the UAE. The Art Sawa Gallery in Dubai played host to the 2013 model that will replace the 207, which was apparently a great seller for Peugeot in the GCC.

The new 5-door hatchback is available with a 120 hp 1.6-litre engine mated to an automatic, although there was some mention of a smaller-engined manual model as well, probably for Levant and fleet markets. There are two trim levels, the Active and the Allure.

The higher-end Allure model comes with 16-inch “Black Diamond” alloy wheels, tinted rear windows, a 6-speaker sound system, USB port, Bluetooth and controls on the steering wheel all as standard. A variety of optional equipment is also on offer, such as a panoramic glass roof with manual curtain, speed limiter and cruise control, dynamic leather seats, LED lighting package with mood lighting, LED ceiling lights and halogen “elliptical module” headlights and more.

Of first look, the 208 is a fairly attractive car, competing with the likes of the Toyota Yaris and the Nissan Micra. The 208 is slightly smaller than the 207, but has more rear legroom now, according to the specs. Inside, the materials are much better than any of the Japanese contenders, but it falls short in terms of overall space, both in the back and in the boot. Standard safety features such as several airbags, ABS and such raise it to a higher level, however.

The French-built 208 Active is priced at Dhs 55,000 while the Allure starts at Dhs 65,000.

Keep track of further updates in the Peugeot buyer guide.

  1. Competing with Micra & Yaris, and starting from AED 55k??and slightly upscale model starts from 65k ( Thts jumping up nearly a segment’s price..e.g Corolla, Elantra). Too expensive, too expensive!! Dealers never learn 🙁

  2. interior looks great. its easy and fun to drive small car. but is it really worth buying ? if it comes in full option around 45k – 50k max, i will consider it. But i cud get elantra in full option for 65k !!!

  3. I would admit is looks more interesting/characterful and perhaps handles/drive better than its asian competitors. Still for an entry level car, it is a steep price… Hopefully the RC version wont bump beyond an 80K price range…

  4. What about transmission? how many speeds?
