Unique 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra revealed as tribute to Carroll Shelby
Ford Motor Company, Shelby American and Ford Racing have paid their tributes to the late Carroll Shelby, a legendary racer and automotive designer who is behind several of world’s iconic machines including the Shelby Cobra 427, and the Mustang-based Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT500, in the form of a jointly-developed unique Mustang, called the 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra.
The Mustang Shelby GT500 Cobra sports a 5.8-litre V8 engine coupled with a 4.0-litre Whipple supercharger from Ford Racing, resulting in over 850 horses on tap. It features a custom wide-body kit housing 13-inch wide rear-wheels that wrap massive 345-section high-performance tyres, in order to effectively manage the insane power from the engine. The car comes finished in “Guardsman Blue” with “Wimbledon-White” stripes, a traditional Shelby livery that graced several classic Cobra roadsters back in the time. Several key components for the car were sourced from Shelby American, such as the specially-designed hood, new rear wide-body kit, Shelby Wilwood brakes and new front and rear wheels.
Shelby plans to auction the car off for charity following a tour around the US during the coming months.
