Caterham delivers first SP/300.R to U.S. dealer
It’s not every day that Caterham comes out with a new car, considering their flagship model hasn’t changed much in 55 years! But the SP/300.R is an all-new product based on a clean-sheet design.
The dedicated track-day car contains underneath a 2.0-litre supercharged Ford “Duratec” engine, producing 300 hp and 290 Nm of torque. The Lola-developed aluminium honeycomb monocoque chassis weighs just 545 kg, and reportedly helps the car do the 0-100 kph run in 2.8 seconds. Top speed of the SP/300.R is marked 290 kph.
The recipient of the first SP/300.R is the car’s U.S. distributor, Dyson Racing. Dyson will use its SP/300.R as a demonstration vehicle to drum up sales for the racer, which promises to rival the Radical in the growing market for purpose-built, LMP-style track cars.
