Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG 2012 set to debut
Mercedes-Benz is all set to unveil the new 2012 SL65 AMG at the New York motor show next month, following the debut of the new-generation SL550 and the SL63 roadsters at Geneva.
The SL65 will be powered by a revised twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 engine by AMG, producing 621 hp and an impressive 1000 Nm of torque, helping it achieve 0-100 kph in just 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 300 kph.
Mercedes also claims improved fuel efficiency and fewer exhaust emissions, despite squeezing out 18 more hp over its predecessor, courtesy an ECO stop/start function, an improved AMG Speedshift Plus 7-speed transmission, new fuel-economy torque converter, reduced- friction bearings and transmission oil thermal management.
The 7-speed AMG transmission also features four individual drive selections; Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S), Sport plus (S+) and Manual (M), depending on driver requirements.
Standard equipment includes the 3-stage ESP, with “SPORT Handling” mode, adjustable dampers, 19-inch AMG 5-spoke light-alloy wheels, Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG Surround Sound System, Carbon fiber trim, and much more, including a host of active and passive safety features.
Optional packages include AMG powered ceramic high-performance brakes, carbon-fibre exterior package and a “Performance Media” kit.
The SL 65 AMG is expected to join the SL550 roadster and the SL63 AMG roadster in the UAE, Oman and the rest of the GCC by the end of this year.
