Dodge Durango 2012 police and fire vehicles to serve and protect

The Dodge Durango is the latest model to join the Special Service category of vehicles from Dodge, specially designed for use by police and fire departments, and general fleet customers.

The Durango Special Service vehicles will be available in rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive formats, powered by the same Pentastar 3.6-litre V6 and the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 engines found in the original Dodge Durango. However, the more robust Dodge Durango Special Service vehicles will come with a heavy-duty brake package, heavy-duty battery, a 220-amp high-output alternator, and a heavy-duty water pump and engine oil cooler. In its Special Service suit, the Durango will also feature a customisable rear-cargo area with under-floor storage compartments and side storage compartments, a special service interior dome lamp and headliner, and spot lamp wiring prep. The third-row seats will be absent for more cargo capacity; nevertheless, the second-row passengers still get separate air conditioning and heating controls.

We do not know whether to expect the Durango Special Service vehicles to make its way into the fleet collections of the local law-enforcement and civil authorities. If it does however, that will be an interesting addition amongst a vast majority of Japanese and Korean contenders.
