Ford Fusion and Mondeo merge for 2013

The all-new 2013 Ford Fusion midsize sedan has debuted at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, touting styling that seems to meld an Aston Martin front end with the rear of a Ford Mondeo. Interestingly, the same car will also be launched in Europe as the Ford Mondeo, so it remains to be seen what it will be called in GCC markets.

Ford will offer the Fusion in various versions for the U.S. market, including a hybrid. The standard version comes in several trims and has a choice of three engines. The base Fusion is powered by a 170 hp 2.5-litre 4-cylinder motor. The next offering is an efficient 179 hp 1.6-litre “EcoBoost” turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The top Fusion comes with a 237 hp 2.0-litre “EcoBoost” turbocharged 4-cylinder powerplant. There is a choice of 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes, depending on engine. Some Western markets will get an all-wheel-drive option alongside the front-wheel-drive model.

Available features include an automatic start-stop system, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, active park assist, blind-spot monitor and MyFord Touch multimedia system with SYNC.

Ford says the Fusion will be built in Mexico and the United States for the American market later this year. It will go on sale in Europe and Asia next year as the Mondeo, so potential buyers in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE have a long wait.

Keep track of Middle East updates in the Ford buyer guide.

  1. I like the mature and somehow conventional design.. But it still feels very similar to an aston’s front..

  2. I drive an ST220 and guess its the best handling front wheel drive sedan. Looking forward to 2013 Mondeo/Fusion

  3. still a ford, so… NOOOOOO!

  4. I want to upgrade…. >.<

  5. Seriously, I wouldn’t mind downgrading to this. Good design, features and fuel economy, what more could you ask from a daily driver … a 6-cylinder version maybe?!?

  6. when will this model be released in the uae?

  7. And how much approximately it price will start?

  8. tourus model has no enough space for the rright knee to relax whe driving ,i think the ford company should take this in consideration

  9. the fusion model seat is not comfortable

  10. I have just got a Ford Fusion SEL 2012 last week. Hopeful to upgrade my 2012 to 2013 one when the piece makes a mark in Dubai. Till then, keep my fingers crossed.

  11. I am going to buy a car in these days and I want to know when the fusion 2013 will be available I saudi Arabia

  13. Nazeem,

I got Ford Fusion 2012 in 85k (Full Option). Performance wise, its great. However, feels ergonomically needs to be improved. Some issues are:
1- Switches for music system, and AC are positioned little low. Hence, difficult to get a sight of it while driving.
2- Glass holder for front passenger and driver in the middle. so, chance is you could ending up drinking each other’s coffee. 🙂
3- Clearance height is relatively less as compared to contemporary sedans (may be i am wrong, but thats what I feel).
4- Lighting controls are not on the conventional left holder. So, its difficult to switch from your old to new car.
5- Its over 4 months, could not trace how to spray water for wiper. In face, havent tried to locate. 🙂

However, on safety line, it is the best. You can get lower option in 71k but no compromise in its safety. Thats what actually attracted me for this car. Or else, I would have settled for a Toyota Corolla. Mind you, without Ford Fusion, cant even think to get a 2.5 l car at 71k. 🙂
