Toyota Camry 2012 leaked by U.S. dealer

Toyota Camry 2012 leaked by U.S. dealer

No one gives a damn about the next Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG or the latest Bugatti Veyron, except for kids who love posters and rich people who don’t drive much. This is the first shoddy photo of the 2012 Toyota Camry, quite possibly the most anticipated car in the world, made a worldwide best-seller by regular folks.

Leaked by a U.S. dealer website, it matches with the vague teaser released by Toyota’s CEO just a few days ago.

The U.S. dealer claims that the car is roughly the same size as the current one, and will feature carryover engines, so it remains to be seen if it will be the “best Camry ever”, as Toyota’s CEO has claimed.

Keep track of updates in the Toyota Camry buyer guide.

  1. I think the previous generation Camry, V30, was the best one out there… It is still being sold in asian markets till today..

I hope they revived the quality, in this model..

  2. Its not the Land Cruiser, not the Prado, but the Camry that I like the most in the Toyota line up, and its getting better in design …

  3. I hope they care about the reliability too.

  4. i remember seeing this car in front of a used car dealer in abu shagara a few days ago and thinking that it was an american spec avalon!

  5. The headlights don’t match perfectively

  6. the first photo is the concept not the real thing, a short video released by dealers who were invited to unofficial launch showes a different car, which is the same that Mr. Toyoda is stand next to. find the link below
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-YUFO4Nvxo

  7. why ,what were they thinkin? 2011 one is the best i thought they would turn the next one to a lexus es dammit looks like hyundai is their master

  8. Forget the exterior design..for sure they’ll come up with something that suxx – i wont go by the teaser until i get to the see the real thing..and from the video, it doesnt look all that different and appealing..all i want to know is whether they fixed their damn failing abs brakes, knocking trannies, idling vibrations, and replaced their plastic tub interior with something soft touch and upscale – all thats not so much to ask for considering the kind of price they sell tis thing at…

  9. Though that i will never want this car for myself, yet no doubt this is one of the few cars on the planet that can make 1,000,000 km without changing engine or gearbox..

    • Maybe…don’t take cabs into account…evn the hyundai and mondeo cabbies can reach tat mark widout probs..I have seen nissans too doing it widout probs..none of the private cars I know cud do it…and my frnd’s camry’s engine gaveup right at 130000 mark!! All these things are jus perceptions than realities!

    • Not all the cabbies with odo above 500,000 KMs are running on the first set engine or gearbox. And not all the drivers know the complete history of the car.

But the best part is if anything breaks since its a toyota its easy to find used one.

    • ^i totally agree wid tat part.

    • Hyundai Cabs has done 250,000KM plus with one drive and still smooth. hopefully check any Dubai cab from Hyundai sonata… etc.

    • Rahul has nailed it. Taxi drivers sing praise of their Camrys and by extension many naive people think only Camrys can do 10000000 kms without changing anything.
The main advantage Camrys have here is the widespread availability of fake spare parts. So a Camry is easier to maintain than something like an Accord.
In turn, people think Toyotas are great and somehow by cause and effect, a Yaris becomes a better car than an Accord.
Toyotas main good offerings are the LC, previous generation Corolla and Camry (both of which were really reliable), FJ (for the unique form factor and niche), and of course commercial stuff like the Hilux.

    • Most of today’s modern cars and ‘with proper care and maintenance’ are meant to survive till the million mile mark.. Engines are more durable than ever if well taken care of..
But here, some of the private owners of cars are pretty abusive.. Either revving their engines hard on warm up, neglecting maintenance/oil changes or simply pushing their car on SZR like its a lambo.. Even lambos are well looked after..

    • Yeah Musa…… My mom’s 2001 Corolla was really reliable and never had any problem. That made us buy the 2005 Camry by trading the corolla. But camry is giving out lots of troubles. Al Futtaim recommends 13 parts to be replaced. If the work done there it can cost around 20,000DHS. But since its a camry its really easy to get second hand parts in Sharjah.

    • And ROJ…. What the private owners mainly do is late oil changes….. That causes the major problem. And many people only does the regular oil changes outside and don’t even care about the other fluids like the transmission fluid. I have heard few cars make a whining sound from the transmission. These are few reasons why I have never seen any automatic transmission cars hit the million mark without any break down. And as usual taxi drivers and one of my friend too thinks camry is a race car. If sitting inside I am flying inside the car even with my 90KGs weight. 😛

    • Tell me about it… I bought a used car and the owner didnt change the oil for some 6K… It was pitch black… I flushed it twice during my 2 years of ownership and switched to semi-synthetic oil… It still annoys me that the lifters slightly ‘ring’ cuz they have some slugde jammed into them if not worse… I even changed the gearbox oil last month…

To be honest cars cost money regardless its new or old.. The more generous you are spending now the more you save money and enjoy peace of mind on the long run whatsoever..

    • That engine might be having some serious sludge build up or may be the lifters itself have lost it life. If you feel power loss try a compression test.

I bought a Hyundai H1 and unluckily its been in the garage for the past 3 weeks. And they just figured out there is a loss of compression in 2 cylinders due to damaged lifters. And this happened just because the driver didn’t care to wait for a while before driving around and sadly the lack of lubrication.

    • Engine is pretty responsive and smooth, i dont feel any power loss and im using the car for the past 7 months to drive on emirates rd from shj to jumeirah everyday… but whenever im revving it, i hear a very slight faint ringing noise from the engine..
I’ll keep driving it till oneday it starts to sound serious… I hear lifters are pretty cheap to replace though for a major fix..

    • I doubt if it is the lifters. Ringing kind of noise can be something else. Lifters if bad usually make a tapping or knocking noise.
If it is a continuous tone, there are chances it can be anything which is belt driven like the compressor, alternator or the belt itself making the sound. Or can be the fan clutch too.

  10. hahahahah new taxis are coming

  11. for fist feeling it is a subaru impreza front, we have to look to the details to know that we are talkin about a camry 🙂

  12. To all those who think they look cool while bashing up the camry, all I have to say is that it’s number one for a reason. Also, open your eyes and you’ll see that the altima and sonata (the mid-size enthusiast’s favorites) are too available as taxis. Haven’t seen someone ever putting that point against them.

    • Camry is no more No. 1 in the world sales, check your sources.

    • McDonalds is the No 1 Fast food outlet, but do they make the best burgers?
Being a taxi doesnt make Camry a bad car; its just that some of those who like it cant articulate a proper reason why they do so apart from “resale value”, and “my company driver/taxi driver said Camry is the best”.
At least those who like Sonatas and Altimas often give other reasons why they like it

    • Altima -> superb engine, fast, good handling, has the best a/c, value for money

Sonata -> Excellent exterior styling, value for money, cheap to run and maintain, very smooth and comfortable, spacious

Accord -> One of the largest mid-sizers, excellent interior quality, excellent fuel efficiency, good handling, good balance between comfort and handling

Galant -> Smooth, cheap to buy, spacious, very good interior quality, excellent a/c

Mondeo -> Another one of the largest mid-sizers, very good interior quality, excellent fuel efficiency, good looks, outstanding handling and yet very comfortable, very good low-end power, all safety options covered in base model including a knee-airbag

Safrane -> good looks, affordable to buy, spacious, very good interior quality, value for money

Fusion -> arguably modern styling, more gadgets for less money, excellent interior quality, very smooth and fairly good handling, fairly spacious, all safety options covered in lower end models

Mazda 6 -> excellent exterior styling, cool interiors boasting very good quality, good fuel efficiency, outstanding handling, very powerful v6

and finally, the CAMRY -> average exterior styling, average interior quality, average engine performance, spacious enough, below average handling, smooth and comfortable, average fuel efficiency, known brake-related issues, most expensive of the lot while offering the least possible options in base model.

Hope that explains!! what needs to be seen is how good and how competitive the new car is going to be..

  13. To me it looks like the front side of Avalon copied and pasted. And seems a bit like Corolla too 🙁

  14. I am planning to buy Galant 2.4 full option for 74000 Dhs. Confused between this and Fusion. Purpose of this car will be for long daily runs around 150Kms per day, maintenance is the main concern. I need your thoughts on this. Heart says Galant.

    • Galant is a really good choice here. For long runs it would be perfect. But the only disappointing part is the dealer.
Still Fusion is not a bad choice. With Ford you might also get free service contract and may be more options for the same money. Their after sales dealings are heard better by some. But not by all. It should not never give you problems with long runs if taken good care of it.
But if you are also looking for resale value too then go for the Galant.

    • If you can please go for Chevolet Malibu than Galant, take a test drive yourself & you will understand its really the best, tust me i am an expert

    • Both are really good choices. Only real plus I find with the Fusion here is the amount of gadgets you get for money and longer service intervals – every 10,000 kms vs every 5,000 kms for the Galant – this matters since you have to run 100+ kms daily. And with ongoing offers for the Fusion, you get 5 years extended warranty and extended service packages. While Fusion has superb scores for reliability in the Americas, it is a rarer car in the UAE and we do not know how long does it really take before it gives up to the treacherous conditions here. My friend who works in Al Tayer drives one everyday from Sharjah to Jebel Ali since over a year now – he finds it absolutely perfect. And you have the extended cover anyway.

The Galant on the other hand has a more proven and solid reliability record. Just make sure you don’t visit the dealers for servicing the vehicle and get it serviced from a good garage outside instead, right from the start. The car will never let you down even if you treat it poorly.

Resale is weak for both Galant and Fusion – selling either car any sooner than 3 years will result in a huge loss unless you are lucky.

Test drive both the cars – make sure you do it even before finalizing. And then make a choice. Good luck 🙂

    • Id buy the new passat.. VW’s service package is every 10K and potentially costs less than that of any japanese car… The car is even cheaper than any of the japanese saloons… Talk about a good deal, id get it… Keep it for 5 years on a warranty and probably extend it for another 2 years… Im sure it would be satisfying more than a borning japanese saloon..

  15. Nothing is above the new Kia Optima 2011 ranging from 70,000-100,000 & the best part is if you have 2-3 months that you can wait you can customize the car as per your budget. Kia Optima SX version rocks test drive it

  16. I have test driven almost every car in the market also am true expert & i dont know why its has to be toyota,nissan.. etc everytime. Have a look at MG 550 & MG 750 , they are superb cars. Originally owned by Bmw & then bought by Gm & now by SAIC Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation who under JV makes cars for other brands in china & parts & that is volkswagen & GM. Because of the Made in China factor its not considered but its a far better car than others. So is the New Kia Optima 2011 btw.

  17. All of the above cars you mentioned with subsequent hp and handling are all worthless when it comes time for trading them in. There is a good reason why Toyota brings top dollars in year round. Look at the current Prius. Lets face it other car makers dont stand a chance. As for Honda, They need to work on their transmission first before even coming into the ring. it jerks everytime you switch gears lol.

    • if the time u r talkin is over 3-4 years, then redo the math..i wud rather buy a fusion fr 68k wid free service until 100k kms, and keep it fr 5 yrs b4 sellin it for 15-20k, than buying a Camry for 78k, spending money on it for every 5000 kms service n thn selling it off at 25-30k..spare parts fr camry is not cheap n the fact that im only getting to buy n keep a not-at-all-fun car to drive fr tat amount remains. add to it the dangers of failing abs brakes, idling vibration and ac probs – i wud prefer to live with hondas knocking gears anyday

    • Resale value only comes into account if you know you will sell your car in 2-3 years.
I prefer to drive a car I will enjoy , i see no point in driving a car i dont like for 5 years (~300 days, 2 hours every day, do the math), all for getting 5000 more a the time of trading it in. Now if you like a Camry for its design then good luck, but if you dont like the car but buy it for resale, then you might as well buy a Toyota Hiace, they have very high resale 🙂

  18. Not sure about other Honda models. Had spend considerable time with 2 of new Civics, indeed , it jerks, when you switch between gears especially the lower ones. Apart from that i rarely heard anyone complaining about Hondas, except the pricing and servicing cost part.

  19. I had Honda Accord 2008, brake pads wear out every 15-20,000 kms. And very poor blue colour which also started looking 10 yrs old car & also everything overexpensive worst service taking days instead of hours. So i sold it & bought kia optima sx & i am laughing on others suffering, get kia optima & all your worries gone.

    • brake pads wearing out issue is too common with all new Hondas i think..heard my friends’ Civics and Accords facing same issues.

    • the much improved brake pads on honda lasts longer which came after 2008 models…I drive a CIVIC 2009 model, did 40K kms service last month, it will run another 10-15K kms as told by service center…

  20. What do you guys think about the 2012 Azeera v4.. Hows the hyundai going overall. I am switching from Toyota Boring Camry, my options are Azeera or wait for 2012 Camry. Suggestions, Advices please….

    • Havent you had enough of camry ! go for newer cars & now there are many out there & worth it too. Try the chevrolet malibu 3.6L & forget hyundai. Njoi the car its superb.

    • If the malibu is not a Daewoo with a chevrolet badge then id say yes why not..

  21. or try Mazda6 2012 with skyactive technologies and new shape in 2013. Personally im in love with Mazda6 cheap to run and reliable.

  22. I dont know about you but im maintaining my from galadari and last week i changed my gear mounting of mazda6 which cost only dhs 410 including labor. I have reciept for proof. Similar service packages are better then rest of brand specially Honda,Mitsubishi and Nissan. Im a dealer selling and buying car i drove most cars and trust me Mazda is the best car i drove.

  23. This is awful..
Y do people buy these cars???
The new Taurus Looks much cooler….

  24. I have seen a trend lately in Jeddah, I havent seen much new Camry’s on the road, but more new Sonata’s and Optima’s. Signs of things to come. Until and unless Camry makes a good looking car, with due respect it’s still the all time best seller among it’s class but untill it improves interior quality compared to Accord or Sonata’s Camry will surely lose its number 1 ranking

  25. I had Sonata and I experienced lots of problem.

its underpower compare to 2.4l japaneese rival and its not as practical as them.I sold that crap Sonata and I am looking forward to buy 2012 Camry.

  26. Got a 0 kms 2010 Renault Safrane, 50 grand, 100 AED gets 500 kms, drives great, feels great, can’t ask much more… Camry? who cares…
the good thing with a 50 grand mid size sedan is that i don’t give an eff about the resell value…
