All-new 2009 Renault Megane photos launched
We had earlier shown you official leaked photos of the upcoming 2009 Renault Megane. Final details of the new car have finally been released.
The new Megane loses its distinctively-upright tail. While we loved the ass (can we say “ass” in Ramadan?), we believe most conservative car-buyers don’t.
The overall design is rather attractive, and is based on a recent concept that hinted at Renault’s new design direction. Basic engine choices have not changed much from the current 2008 model. Petrol engines include a 100 hp 1.6-litre, a 110 hp 1.6-litre, a 140 hp 2.0-litre, and to be released later, a 130 hp turbocharged 1.3-litre unit. There is also a vague mention of a 180 hp turbocharged engine. Depending on engine, transmission choices include 5-speed and 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes, as well as CVT.
Renault boasts of DVD navigation, integrated Bluetooth phone, iPod compatibility, huge luggage space with under-floor storage, hands-free entry and ignition, automatic parking brake and hill-start assist.
Expect it to hit Dubai and GCC showrooms early next year, unless local dealers choose to clear existing stocks first, like they are doing with the outdated Clio.
