Chrysler 200 replaces Sebring for 2011

Now under Fiat ownership, Chrysler is on a brisk product improvement drive, and the latest model to benefit is the unloved Sebring midsize sedan. The Sebring is being replaced by a new model dubbed the Chrysler 200. And contrary to popular belief, it is more of an internal and external facelift with some mechanical upgrades, rather than an all-new platform.

So far only in the “teaser” stage, Chrysler has only released limited information on the new 200 sedan. Engines for this front-wheel-drive sedan will include a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder mated to either a 4-speed or a 6-speed automatic depending on model trim, or a new 3.6-litre V6 engine with 6-speed automatic.

The exterior feature completely new front and rear designs, although the general side profile is identifiable as the outgoing Chrysler Sebring. Interior updates include a new instrument panel, bezels and gauge face, upgraded seats with a new design, new leather and cloth seating materials, new “soft touch” armrests and dash, and new heating and cooling outlets in the instrument panel with improved design and functionality.

The 2011 Chrysler 200 will hit U.S. showrooms by the end of 2010, so expect a UAE, Saudi and GCC-wide launch in the first half of next year.

Keep track of updates in the Chrysler buyer guide.
