Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2011 gets better interior

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe debuted for 2010 with much fanfare, being directly compared to the Infiniti G37 Coupe by the foreign media. It was launched in the UAE in only a single V6 trim level, priced almost half as much as the tiny Nissan 370Z. We never drove it, but we did feel it up at the Dubai showroom. The interior was a let-down in terms of materials, but it looks like Hyundai has addressed that for the 2011 model year.

The 2010 model’s interior has a soft-touch dashboard top, but the parts directly facing the passengers as well as huge chunks of the door panels are all cheaper hard plastic. So now, for 2011, Hyundai has added new soft-touch surfaces on the door panels, centre speaker grille, glove box and the lower instrument panel. There is also new dark metal-grain accents on the centre stack, door handles, air-vent bezels and steering-wheel trim. Hyundai also brags about padded door armrests, softer steering-wheel leather, cloth-wrapped A-pillars, and chrome finish for the automatic shift gate bezel, gauge cluster rings and centre-stack control knobs. Other additions include rear coat hooks, boot-lid grab handle and “enhanced” multi-information display screen graphics.

While only one loaded automatic trim level is available in the GCC, the U.S. market is going to get a new 3.8 R-Spec model, stripped down of certain luxuries to become a more focused racer, alongside the 2.0T, 2.0T Premium, 2.0T R-Spec, 3.8 Grand Touring and 3.8 Track models.

It can be assumed that the interior changes will be applied to the limited-availability Genesis Coupes coming to this region, although they will likely continue to be V6 models only.

Keep track of prices and updates in the Hyundai Genesis Coupe buyer guide.
