Mercedes-Benz CL-Class 2011 gets invisible facelift

There were rumours that Mercedes-Benz will drop the CL-Class in favour of renaming it as the S-Class coupe once the new generation rolls around. However, it looks like the 2011 version is simply a facelift, so the CL-Class badge seems to be sticking around for now. Good luck spotting the exterior changes though, as it seems to be nothing more than a mildly reshaped front end and a couple of add-on LED lamps.

The 2011 CL-Class, as offered in North America, will include CL 550 4MATIC and CL 600 variants. The all-wheel-drive CL 550 4MATIC comes with a new 4.7-litre V8 twin-turbo engine with 429 hp and 699 Nm of torque. It takes 5.1 seconds to do the 0-100 kph run. On the other hand, the CL 600 has a 5.5-litre V12 twin-turbo engine that makes 510 hp and 829 Nm of torque, managing the 0-100 kph run in 4.7 seconds.

There is also a raft of optional electronics, such as gimmicks to warn sleepy drivers, gimmicks to vibrate the steering wheel if the car drifts out of the lane, gimmicks to stabilise the car in crosswinds, gimmicks to hit the brakes in an imminent accident, and gimmicks to see pedestrians at night.
