GM recalls Chevy, Cadillac, GMC & Hummer models

General Motors is recalling 1.5 million vehicles, across their Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Hummer and other brands, because of a potential fire risk due to faulty heated windshield washer nozzles. This includes 22,500 cars in the Middle East, of which 6,000 are in the UAE.

The recall involves a feature that heats fluid in the windshield washer system, designed for snowy weather where the nozzles may freeze. There have been a few incidents where a short circuit could overheat the “control circuit ground wire” and pose a fire risk. The feature was already discontinued in 2009 due to supplier issues.

The affected vehicles are the 2006–2009 Cadillac DTS and Hummer H2; 2007-2009 Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe; 2007-2009 GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL; 2008–2009 Cadillac CTS and the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse.

There have been obviously been no incidents in the GCC, but GM will be contacting local customers and disabling the system as a precaution. In the United States, affected owners will get a $100 refund.
